Heritage Road
April 2015 Scraps of Elegance Kit
May Prima Build-A-Page

7 Hours left....and I am once again making the deadline for the Prima Build a Page sailing in by the skin of my teeth!!!

This month Jennifer had another great sketch incorporating an all time favourite of mine, tearing. I loved the diagonal strips and the lovely words featured on the sketch. I am still using products from our April Scraps of Elegance Kit 'Lynne's Garden Terrace' which was filled with papers from the gorgeous Prima Butterfly Collection. All the Prima flowers, leaves, little resin Ladybug and 'Tag Me' pieces are from the Main and Add-on Kits.

The little Beauty is my youngest daughter Michelle, age 2, way back in 1992...

I used a Prima Mask and white Crackle Paste from Art Extra-vagance for texture. The Prima crochet Doilies are from a previous and the Lamppost and Street sign from Prima are from my own stash.

The beautiful Butterfly is as usual from Renea Bouquets. I made some elements from the beaded string found in the Main Kit. I simply glued them into a circle on my craft-mat and once dry, I coloured them with some alcohol Inks.

I achieved the diagonal strips from the sketch by tearing and punching strips of paper and layering them on the top of the page.

Textures achieved by using white crackle Texture Paste and spats using the Gelatos mixed with some water.

A cluster using the Tags, flowers, leaves and the cute Lady-bug...

I am my own kind of Perfect
Prima January 2015 BAP

I love using sketches and usually challenge myself  to stay as true to the sketch as possible. I might flip or rotate it and always try to incorporate elements as shown in the sketch....
But when I saw this sketch by Jennifer Snyder my mind just saw one thing and I had to use the Artistic license to cut the main image in thirds. Therefore apology's to Jennifer...it is still your sketch...just changed a little...
I am also doing a page for the Prima PP and used the same sketch, as it was meant to be...lol!

Seeing as Finnabair has a Sparkle and Shine Blog Hop Challenge going on...I am entering this page over there....

You can still see the sketch...right???
I used two sheets of Prima paper, Love Affair from Time Traveler Collection and Roses are Red from Stationary Desk Collection.
After lightly gesso'ing parts of the background, I used a Prima Stencil and Clear Crackle Paste to create  the leaf pattern.
I sprayed and splattered using Color Bloom Tea Stain and Vintage Coal Mists.
The horizontal Dotted lines are also stencilled using Pastel Brown Edge Chalk.

The crackles show up beautifully from the Vintage Coal mist that seeped into them .

The frame was cut and I coloured it with the same two sprays as the background.

Being inspired by Louise Nelson's awesome work with sequins made me dig mine out and use them as well...love the effect and think I will be using them more in future as well!

Around the edges of the frame I applied Charcoal Art Sugar, Henna Mica Flakes and Sterling Glass Glitter...all from the Finnabair line of Art Ingredients. They were all very easily adhered using Soft Matte Gel.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog...Always so much appreciated.
Have a wonderful and restful weekend....

Sound Foundations for Prima's April BAP

This month  Prima BAP sketch by Lene just asks for some grungy, mixed media work...I did a whole bunch of texture work on this one, and wish you could see and feel it in real life, for the photos don't really do it justice!

The photos are of my son Francois taken back in 1988 when he was about 5 years old and we were building our house. I did not crop the photos too much, for I still want to see the unfinished walls in the picture...My title is meant to play on the foundations on which our house and home is build on and also the foundations we as parents lay down for our children to grow up with...

I am slowly finding my feet with the mixed media and texture work...baby steps, but I am getting the hang of it slowly...I found that I love adding different kinds of media, but still need my page to look neat and a little organized...This page has layers of misting, stamping, coarse Texture Gel, Modelling Paste and embossing on it. Let me take you though it all via some close-up photos. By clicking on my photos twice, you will get a real good zoomed in look, would you wish too.

It's hard to see, but I actually fuzzy-cut the bricks in the photo, blends them in nicely with my brick stamping. I embossed the stamped image with Ranger Antiquities Rust embossing powder. Also did a little shadow painting with Distress Markers on the bricks.

I inked the clock faces and stamped some texture with different colours of inks and did some embossing with clear UTEE. I did not like the first inking and whilst rubbing the ink off, also took some of the numbers off...I am now thinking of my clock face as heavily distressed!!!

After some stencilling I first misted with 3 different colours of mists and then added Coarse Texture gel to my page, The white is the texture gel. There after I used the mini splats template and some coloured modelling paste to add more drop effects as per the sketch.

Mixing a drop of Vintage Photo re-inker with the modelling paste and not mixing it thoroughly, gave me the two toned effect on the splats.

The typo Bulb was embossed with Ranger Blue Glass embossing powder...

The button from the chipboard sheet got two brads as decoration.

These last two photos are to try and show the depth of dimension I achieved by rolling and lifting the papers..!

I used the following Prima products...
Prima Paper, Engraver Collection: Cesello, Bank Note, Roulette, Cartouche.
Engraver Chipboard Pieces.
Engraver Brads.
Junkyard Findings,Typo Bulb, Clock Faces, Clock Hands.
Prima Alphabet Stickers.
The Crafters Workshop 6x6 Templates: Mini Splats, Mini Tile Texture.

Thank you for your visit...and if you're wondering...yes, we are still living in this same house...

The me I see each day....

Prima February Build a Page.

This LO laid on my table for a few days because it just did not want to work! And I just came to realise again that I have trouble making a Doily work....for that was the issue, I had cut a Doily from a sheet of paper, flipped it around, painted it, slammed texture onto it...and only when I took it away, did I like what I was doing! Therefore this BAP from Prima has all the elements from the sketch....all except the Doily....!

I took this picture of a mirror / sculpture in 2011 during a vacation for I loved the texture and layers that it had, and because it was hanging in a narrow passageway...I was also captured in the picture...lol!

I coloured a piece of wire mesh with alcohol inks, it represents the chicken wire on the sculpture.

Did some stamping and inking and used a Prima mask for some texture work...

The Epiphany Crafts Bubbles are representing the circles on the sketch. The pieces of wood are of course highlighting the woodwork of the sculpture.

I tried to get some flowing movement with my paper layers...

I used the following Prima products...
                        Nature Garden Collection: Pixie
                    Printery collection: Signature
              Say it with crystals Lace
Say it in Pearls
 A Cassie flower
                            Juliette and Miss Godivas flowers.
             Wooden element Doors

~~ Goodness Gracious Me ~~

This will be my first try at Prima's Build a Page... I am going to try and live out my word for 2013 - Perseverance - to its fullest. I will need to learn to, well, persevere, for I admit that I can very easily be disheartened and in self doubt about my scrapping...It is easy to say one should scrap for fun and to preserve memories for future generations...but for me it is an art form as well...And there are so many great, amazingly talented scrappers who are constantly bombarding us with new techniques and ideas, it can become a bit intimidating at times.

I am going to try out as many new ideas as I can, but in the end still stay true to myself! And I am not going to let myself get down if I do not succeed...I will just try again, or move on to the next challenge!!! Wise words this early in the year, I know...let's see how long I can keep to them...lol!

Felicity Wilson provided this sketch for January... Lots of white space, one of my problem areas, and I know I wasn't fully successful in the interpretation of  white space, but I loved working on this LO and actually love the out come as well.

This fellow graced us with his beauty at the Cheetah Park, although he is a Leopard...lol!
I used the following Prima papers, Almanac Collection /Agenda, Edison
                                                    Reflection Collection / Meadowlark
                                           Rondelle Collection / Cotillion

A twig of the Blossom Branch Walnut with a Genie Stone. The chipboard is from our local Celeb8 and is coloured with Lindys Stampgang Macigal Mica's.

Flowers and leaves from the Bretton Parchment Vine.

I used a Prima / Donna Downey Studio Mask to first mist with Lindys Mists / Phantom Fucia, then used it with some texture paint and finally a few spritz of Violaceous Violet.

Thank you for your visit...have a wonderful, peaceful weekend

Hugs....
