Dusty Attic DT / Feb 2015

Hello friends...
Today I am sharing an altered project made for Dusty Attic. I transformed a plain LOVE photo-frame into a little garden filled with flowers and foliage and even a little Bird!

To prepare the background I covered it with some tissue paper and painted a watered down layer of Dusty Attic Cashmere paint...All the paints I used are Dusty in Colour

I then added a layer of Bisque mixed with some glaze and wiped some of it off with a wet wipe. I also used the Bisque to do a little stencilling. Denim was used to colour the edges.

The Elegant Swirl #3 was painted with Storm Cloud and dry brushed with a little Denim...I cut it into pieces and placed it in various places on the frame. My flowers are Dusty in Bloom, Grassy Knoll and Cornsilk.

The Maiden Hair Fern and Vine Frame #1 was Gesso'd and texture added with some texture paste. It was painted with Jungle Green , Pesto and Forrest. I used some gesso to highlight.
The small branch # 4 was painted with Gingernut and dry brushed with Forrest.

I wanted the leaves to have some added textures, therefore I wet them with water before painting, I separated and curled them a little and dried them with my Heat-gun. Dusty Attic chipboard are ideal for this technique for it separates into at least three layers that can be curled.

The Birdcage is two Mini Birdcage #2 cages layered...I cut the top one in two and made small card-board hinges in order for it to open up a was painted with Fine Silver.

All these products are available from the Dusty Attic Shop...

Mini Birdcage #2

In the garden I tend to drop my thoughts here and there.
To the flowers I whisper the secrets I keep
and the hopes I breathe.
I know they are there to eavesdrop
 for the angels.

Wishing you all best wishes and Happy Scrappings...till next time

February 2015 Scraps of Elegance Kit

Good Evening friends...

One of the items in our Creativity Add-on in our February kit, 'Lisa's Love Letters' is this unique round canvas. I have never seen one before...and enjoyed creating on it. Please take the time and see how Lisa herself used this's a treat to watch her video and follow her creative steps...

I regret not taking a photo after placing all my elements and before covering it all with Gesso and paint...I have several items from the kit on here...but also some bits and pieces from my nick-knack box.

Incidentally, this is me in the photo, I was 16 at the time and sometimes wish I could go back to that time to change certain things and mainly to tell myself to be stronger and Believe in myself and have more confidence...I battle with a low...very low self esteem that sometimes keeps me from being truly happy with myself...

I started by adhering several laces, some from last months kit and some of my own. Then I added both clear and white Gesso to it. I also added random thick layers of DecoArt Dimensional Texture Paste from the Main kit mixed with some glass beads. I also used the The Crafters Stencil, also from the Creativity Add-on to stencil the hearts... I left it to dry completely overnight.

Some of the items from the kit can be seen here. From the Flower and Elements Add-on's I used the flowers and the fan. The small black frame from the Main kit I broke in half and used it on two places.

The heart turned out this yummy grungy because I tried to give it some texture by pressing a piece of paper onto the wet paste, when lifting the paper a piece of paste came of as well...This is a good example of a mishap being much loved. I used Lindy's Stampgang Starburst Spray 'Glory of the Seas Gold' from the Color Add-on as well as several others from my own stash. To give depth I used some of the Chocolate Double Scoop Gelato mixed with a drop of water and painted on.

The small key from the Reneabouquets Butterfly's and the half frame. The Alpha Beads from Darice and Stampendous Mica Fragments from the Elements kit.

To highlight the textures I brushed some Gesso onto the beads and elements.

Just a quick anecdote...People who know me might know that I am a real pain when it comes to straightness...I literally spend time with a ruler making sure everything is straight and in line! Can you see how crooked these letters are? See this is what happened...I was painstakingly gluing them down when Hubby...dear Hubby calmly announced downstairs that he has nearly cut his finger of (again) whilst pruning a tree!!! Leaving everything as is, we dashed of to the doctor to have three stitches done...and that dear friends is why my FREE is all skew and crooked.

Thank you for taking the time to visit...please visit the Scraps of Elegance Blog for more inspiration from my fellow Team mates, and the Scraps of Elegance Shop to subscribe to kits and buy items used on my projects.

They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in
their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

Scraps of Darkness and Scraps of Elegance Kit Clubs are looking for one or more Educators to join our Design Teams!

Have a look at what is to offer for the month of February...

Main Kit

This month marks the 3rd Anniversary of Scraps of Elegance Kit club, (our first Scraps of Elegance kit debuted on February 1, 2012). As we mentioned last month, each of our designers will have a kit named after them this year, and this month, we're honouring our Design Team Coordinator, Lisa Novogrodski! A few of Lisa's favourite things: the color red, Blue Fern Studios paper and chipboard, and anything mixed media - so we've got them all in this month's kit and add ons! Our February kit features Blue Fern's BRAND NEW Love Story collection, Marion Smith Designs' Romance Novel 2 collection, and Prima's Epiphany collection, plus so much more, all perfect for creating those romantic Valentine's Day projects!
