12 Tags of 2012 April / Studio L3 Challenge #3

Good morning all.... Today's post combines two challenges at once... Tim's April tag and Linda's CC2 #3 over at Studio L3. This week we turn to page 46 of A Compendium of Curiosities Vol 2. The technique is Marbled Stains...something that most of us students seem to battle with ... although Professor Tim makes it seem so easy! The sponsor of this weeks $25 prize is eclectic Paperie. I shopped around a little and must confess that I could use a gift certificate there!

Tim's techniques this month contains his beautiful new Bird Branch Die...which of course I do not have, there for I cut an image out of grunge paper with my Cameo! He also used Reflections Stamps...another no have yet!!! and an embossing folder. Although I do have the embossing folder Tim used, ( something I have, at least! ) I bought this beautiful embossing folder from Couture Creations called Waterfall, and I thought it gave a very nice back ground to my project! Here then is my take on Tim's techniques for April...

I used the Marble Stain effect on both back grounds...the stamped one was my practice tag that I used as a matting layer.

I used Tattered Rose Distress embossing powder and Antiquities Verdigris on my branch.

My Bird was coloured with Distress Inks and a little Dusty Concord Distress Marker. The little crown was inked as per the Faux Patina Technique.

Although I do battle with the Marble Stains technique, I don't think this one came out to bad! One can see a little marble at least....

Thank you for your visit today! Have a wonderful, peace full week....leaving you with this thought...

A bird does not sing because it has an answer.
It sings because it has a song.

Guest Designer for Scrap Africa!

What a wonderful privilege it was to be asked to design a Mothers day project for Scrap Africa...

In May we celebrate Mother's Day (May 13) in South Africa.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us at Scrap Africa to celebrate motherhood
with our love and creativity.
Create any scrap object, which  in some way related to a mother.
There is a catch though!
In your projects, you will need to use a phrase, a poem or a special message dedicated to a mother - be it yourself, your own mother or anyone else you would want to say something nice about as a mother.

This is my contribution... I made a Step Card using Pion Papers and Dusty Attic Chip board pieces....

I really had a heavy hand in the distressing...I used various colours of chalk, and then took a scratching tool to the chippy to give it a weathered look!

The vase was put through a coloured texture fader and the cuttlebug.

I wasn't too happy with the first photo...this one shows the steps a little better.

Thank you for looking....I'm leaving you with a little Mother quote...

Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.

Studio L 3 Challenge...

Over at Linda Louise Ledbetter's extra room upstairs ( I agree Linda...Studio L3 works much better!!! )... she is hosting a challenge for us using techniques from Tim Holt's Compendium of Curiosities Vol 2. Each week we have to use a certain technique. This week we are using page 58, Faux Patina. I can not tell you how to do the technique, for we want to encourage every one to purchase their own wonderful book.

There are also prizes to be won...always a good reason to create!!! This weeks prize is sponsored by Angie Lentz and it is a very beautiful idea-ology Messenger Bag, autographed by Tim himself!

Here then is my take on Faux is used on the Ornate Plate...

The background was created by covering a piece of card stock with a thick layer of gesso paint and then I pressed and wrinkled a piece of tissue wrap on to it. A good helping of Distress Inks and spray mists and a stamp followed.

I am posting this on the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge as well. This weeks challenge is Stamp and Show your favourite word. I chose Sentimental as my word, for that I am most certainly!

Thanks for stopping by!

12 Tags of 2012 March

When I first saw this card with the mosaic butterflies, I thought of giving it a skip for I am not that fond of mosaic... but I am planning of doing all the Tags and CC101 and Simon Says Stamp and Studio L3 Compendium of Curiosities 2....and , and, and...." I seem crazy yea?" anyway, seeing as I want to do all the Tags I had to do this one as well!

And boy oh boy, am I glad I did... for I love the look of the little snippets of paper in between the grout! Well, in my case I did not yet have the grout, there for I used Platinum UTEE, and I loved the out come. I did not heat the UTEE to much on the large butterfly, it still has some texture, but on the small butterfly I melted the UTEE completely, giving it a smooth texture. I received my Antiquities Cement Embossing Powder yesterday and will give this technique another try.

I am not making Tags, but instead making card like projects combining different techniques...for this one I did a brush less water colour background as taught by Prof Tim on the second day of CC 101. I used a La Blanche stamp for this card. I also made a frame with the Wood Stamp.

This is my project....

These are Pennants from the Alterations Die.

Thank you for your visit...Have a pleasant day... I am leaving you with this Irish Blessing...

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to land on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.

... Destiny ...

Hi everybody on this Saturday!!!

I made another of these cards...they are so easy to make and so much fun to decorate!  Especially if I can use my all time favourite Tim Holtz products teamed with Enmarc Craft chipboard! I am going to post this on Simon Says Stamp and Show as well...this week is "Anything Goes" week...

I used Papers from the Craft Resist Stash, which I stained with Picket Fence Distress Stain and then sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Mist. I also used The Lost and Found and Crowded Attic Stash.

The Gears are from Enmarc Crafts. They got the Rusted Grunge Treatment together with some Dabber Paints.

The fragment Charms were glued with Glossy Accents to paper, trimmed and fastened to the card with washers and long fasteners.

The Philosophy Tag was altered with some Dabber Paint and placed on one of the gears.

Just to make it extra grungy, I added a piece of Ball Chain! Please remember that you can have a closer look by clicking on the photos twice!

Thank you for looking and have a pleasant, peaceful weekend!!!

Doing the Happy Dance !!!

As some of you might already know... Scrapbook Studio announced their first ever Design Team yesterday! And yes ...WHOOP WHOOP... I was one of the ladies asked to join them on their team!

This will be something quiet new to me as Cariena will be kitting our LO's...that means that my Designs will actually be bought and made by other scrappers! What a daunting idea...but the worst part is ...I have to write instructions...Now most who have seen me scrap know that I do not measure anything...there for I will have to start thinking in terms of cm when I do my Design Team LO...I suppose there is always something new to learn!

I am looking forward to working with Cariena, her sales team and my fellow DT members. Please feel free to follow Scrapbook Studio's  Blog or follow us on Facebook to see how this new adventure of mine is going!

~~~ Rainbow ~~~ Scrap Africa Challenge # 3
Let's celebrate our "rainbow nation" !
Make anything with a rainbow or inspired by a rainbow: you can decorate your project with a rainbow or you can use a photograph of a rainbow in your layout. You can use the word "rainbow" in the title of your project. Or you can be inspired by a beautiful picture of a rainbow to create a colorful effect on your project.
This was challenge # 3 hosted by Scrap Africa ending today. When I first saw the challenge, I knew I wanted to play with flowers arranged in the colours of a rainbow. From there on my page took shape with a quote, then some designs and elements and lastly the photo! All upside down, I know...but I think the end result isn't to, actually I think it looks quiet good!
I am combining this with my March DT pack from Enmarc Craft. I used the Dazzle Stencil; Old Brick Wall, to blend me a Rainbow brick wall. The Birds in the Garden were sprayed with the new Eggshell Dazzle Spray and the Frame was treated to a layer of red paint...some crackle paint and finally a layer of green paint!
The photo is Michelle aged about 5 month...This was back in 1990!
Love this effect of crackle on the Enmarc Frame... The flower was just covered with some Stickles.
The back ground papers were white, I did some resist stamping and used my Distress inks to blend the colours.
Thank you for visiting....Please pop in to both Scrap Africa and Enmarc Craft who both have super challenges going at the moment!
This month sketch by Michelle Grant for the Dusty Attic April Sketch Challenge...
And my take on her beautiful Sketch...
I used Pion Papers. The feathery flower is from Prima flowers ( isn't it just too gorgeous? ) The other flowers are from Petaloo. From Dusty I used Botanic Accent #2 and Fancy Trim #6. They were just inked and embossed and some Distress Stains rubbed over them.
The photos are of Chantelle! I also used Catherine Lane's tutorial on Raised Stitching to stitch the circle...Thanks for the super tutorial Cath!
Thank you for looking...have a great Monday and week ahead!
12 Tags of 2012, February
I am playing catch up with all my challenges! It is going to slow to my liking...would really love an extra hour or two per day!!!
This tag is made using Tim's techniques as per the February Challenge...though it is not really a challenge, more a demo...the challenge part comes to play once I try to use the techniques with supplies that are on hand!
I had to fore go the Honeycomb Paper... haven't got that. Used a Sizzix / Hero Arts Stamp and embossing folder. And had to cut my Cupid with my Silhouette Cameo!
Still loved playing with my inks and blending, as I always do! Oh and the tissue tape folding...what an issue that was for me! I think I am to neat and precise for that, for I did mine three times before I was more or less satisfied LOL!
Can you see the Embossed flower images? It does look quiet pretty in real life!
Thanks for off to try the March techniques...
~~~ Believe in your Dreams~~~ Scrap Africa Sketch #3

Now this LO has a story behind it... Three weeks ago Scrap Africa posted their Sketch #3 challenge...and a beautiful sketch it is...of course I would Love to do it. Then Mr Tim and his Creative Chemistry 101 happened and all my thoughts and energy went into that...end of story is that time just took the reins and ran away from me! So much so that I , fortunately, had a look on the blogs at what was going on in the world post CC101 and my oh my... at 1h50 pm I saw that there was just over 9 hours left for Scrap Africa's challenge!

Now 9 hours is more than enough time to do a LO...mostly...but could you see me trying to take photos at 11 pm in the dark some were? But do the sketch I still wanted to... hence a scrap marathon of 1h 40 min started!!! Fortunately I had the gorgeous sketch to work from and low and behold  the first  papers I grabbed just did all my Celeb8 chippies! They were coloured with Alcohol inks. And the most interesting aspect of this LO is , I am actually very happy with it! That is some thing so rare for I am my worst critic, as my friends will tell you!

The butterfly from Marianne's dies was cut three times and layered...

Unfortunately the light was already to dim...the green in the paper doesn't show up to well...I will retake the photos tomorrow and post some better photos!

Thank you for having a look at my scrapping! Have a safe and Happy Easter weekend

Hugs to all

Creative Chemistry 101

I enrolled for Tim Holtz's online classes called Creative Chemistry I thought last years workshop hosted by Tim was the highlight of my life...( yea, I am a total Tim junkie!!! ) but these one on one classes were an absolute fascinating experience! I have a lot of catching up to do and postings to post...but that is the beauty of these classes, I have life long access to them and can finish my tags at my own time, and as I obtain the supplies needed! I want however to show this front page that I made for my class file...

This photo was taken during last years convention and I thought it perfect to adorn my file! I used various of the techniques taught by Tim...and of course had to crown him King of Grunge!!!

I will certainly miss my morning coffee shared with Tim, and hope that he will seriously consider CC 102 and 103 and....well you get the picture?

I will share more photos of my tags in days to come.
Thank you for stopping by....have a wonderful, creative week ahead!
